The app, which is available as a free download for Apple and Android devices, is an easy-to-use and on-the-go tool to locate clinical trials and clinics and view and share the latest Duchenne news. Duchenne is a fatal genetic disorder that slowly robs young men of their muscle strength.

“Currently, there are no FDA-approved treatments for Duchenne; however, there are several potential therapies in development and currently in clinical trials,” notes Pat Furlong, founding president and CEO of PPMD. “It’s essential that patients and their families have ongoing access to information on the latest clinical trials. We’re proud to bring this new resource to the Duchenne community.”

The app was developed with the goal of filling a need for the Duchenne community and developed with the experts at PPMD.

Especially for rare disorders, enrolling enough patients in a clinical trial can be challenging. “With the explosive growth of mobile devices, people are using their smartphones to access information 24/7 whenever and wherever they need it,” says Wendy White, founder and president of Siren Interactive. “This app will make it easier for Duchenne families to find the right resources. We’re also very pleased to be able to support the amazing work of PPMD.”

DRS Technologies has received the highest U.S. honor for protecting classified information and technology through a culture of compliance with government security regulations by receiving the prestigious Defense Security Service Award for Excellence in Counterintelligence.

The Defense Security Service (DSS) instituted the award two years ago to recognize the cleared defense contractor that best demonstrates the ability to stop foreign theft of sensitive and classified information and technology.

DSS Director Stanley L. Sims said DRS Technologies earned the award for 2012 by demonstrating “an unrivaled commitment” to security.

“The quality and timeliness of reporting of security-related information reflect the commitment to compliance that DRS employees have and the proactive stance the company has taken to partner with the U.S. government to maintain the highest levels of security,” Sims said.

In a series of DSS assessments, some 90% of DRS facilities where employees handle classified content received a “superior” rating, the highest level granted, compared with a national average of just 8% superior.

DRS CEO and former U.S. Deputy Secy. of Defense William J. Lynn said compliance with security requirements is one of the most critical responsibilities of any company in the defense industry. “Our warfighters are counting on U.S. industry to maintain the technological edge they deserve to ensure their own safety as they defend us around the world,” Lynn said.

The DSS Counterintelligence Directorate is responsible for evaluating defense contractors’ compliance with a wide range of security regulations and procedures. To select the recipient of the Defense Security Service Award for Excellence in Counterintelligence, they consider best practices, results and whether the corporate culture promotes vigilance.

TapSense, a leading mobile marketing platform, announces that it will offer recommendations and complimentary consulting to marketers following the end of Apple’s acceptance of apps with UDID (Unique Device Identifier) on May 1st, 2013. This week, apps that collect UDID information will no longer be accepted by Apple, following major concerns and pressure from privacy advocates as UDID did not allow consumers to opt out from mobile ad tracking.

Gregory Kennedy, VP Marketing, TapSense comments: “It’s great news that UDID is finally being phased out and marketers should be excited about the new IFA alternative, which has been available since the release of iOS 6 last year. For a long time, many advertisers have found themselves in a legal gray area as the compliance guidelines have been unclear. Marketers now have the clarity they have been looking for and we anticipate advertising on iOS to increase significantly because of this.”

Apple’s IFA alternative is built into iOS 6 and users can opt out of any tracking method by changing a setting at the device level. The device level solution also puts iOS ahead of the PC web, where legal compliance with ad tracking has to be handled on a site-by-site basis via cookies.

Now that Apple’s IFA is available for marketers, TapSense offers the following tips on how to get the most out of app conversion tracking:

Understand user Lifetime Value (LTV): Conversion tracking lets you understand an acquired user’s LTV and focus on getting users who spend in your app.

Avoid Software Development Kit (SDK) conflict: With one conversion tracking SDK in your app you can avoid the headaches of managing multiple SDKs.

Work with multiple publishers: With conversion tracking in place you can easily work with new publishers, ad networks and other third parties.

Acquisition deduplication: Don’t pay twice for the same user from different networks. Conversion tracking attributes users to the right source.

Focus on iOS: With the legal gray area surrounding UDID now clarified, you can track all your advertising campaigns with confidence.

Get better ROI: With conversion tracking you can optimize your marketing by channel and creative to reduce your cost per acquisition.

Improve your product: Follow users through the conversion funnel and identify the drop off points so your team can correct them.

Get back to marketing: With Apple’s IFA and the right conversion tracking in place, marketers can stop worrying about tech issues and get back to doing what they do best – marketing.

New commissioned research conducted by Forrester Consulting identifies key challenges marketers continue to face regarding data management to reach today’s hyper-connected consumer. Uniting cross-channel customer data and activity within a comprehensive data environment remains a common goal; however, the study reveals that many marketing leaders continue to struggle when it comes to a customer-centric approach. Without a high level of data cohesion, it is difficult to provide the level of personalization, cross-channel consistency and real-time relevance that today’s consumers expect from the brands they engage. The lack of a comprehensive dataset also limits the reliability and effectiveness of analytics and other key metrics.

To address these issues, Knotice is sponsoring a live webinar, featuring special guest Forrester Research Principal Analyst Joanna O’Connell. This one-hour event will go deeper into the details of Forrester Consulting’s research, “A Customer-Centric Strategy Requires a Revamp of Current Data Practices,” (April 2013, commissioned by Knotice), exploring data intake and personalization challenges across channels, touchpoints, device types and more. The event will also offer trends, tips and best practices to overcome the challenge of unifying data across channels for customer-focused messaging and richer insights.

During the webinar, participants will learn:

Steps to revamp their current data management approach around the customer;

How today’s top marketers are approaching the challenges as they shift toward a customer-focused, data-oriented approach;

Why having all that data isn’t enough – how it can be more useable and actionable within a data management platform to leverage for the greatest value;

How to maintain relevant communications to both known and anonymous consumers who engage with brands online;

Why targeting across iPads can be difficult, including ways to overcome real mobile challenges;

Case-study examples on what’s working – and what’s not working – when coordinating advanced personalization across email, website, mobile and display;

Trends and key recommendations to solve for data intake challenges, with exclusive access to information not found in the original report, and more.

There is no cost to participate, but registration is required.

Nearly half of commuters self-reported texting while driving in a recent poll1, and 43% of those who did called it a “habit.”

Commuters are texting and driving even more than teens – 49%1, compared to 43%2. And the problem has gotten worse. Six in 10 commuters say they never texted while driving three years ago.

So while efforts to raise awareness of the dangers of texting while driving are working – 98% of commuters surveyed said they know sending a text or email while driving isn’t safe – there’s clearly more work to be done to change behaviors.

Survey sponsor AT&T* is calling on employers to help end texting while driving by taking action during National Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April, and beyond. It’s asking businesses to join the more than 165 organizations already engaged in the Texting & Driving-It Can Wait movement, and to use the policies, technologies and communications materials available free at att.com/itcanwait to help move their employees beyond being aware of the danger to making a personal commitment not to text and drive.

“Businesses can help keep their employees and others on the road safe by encouraging responsible behavior behind the wheel, including obeying all laws related to the use of electronic devices,” said U.S. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue. “We also encourage all businesses to consider joining the ‘It Can Wait’ movement to end texting while driving. Together we can help turn the tide on this serious issue.”

Through It Can Wait, AT&T has reached millions with the insight that most text messages are trivial, and no text is worth dying for. It has made the dangers of texting and driving real and personal by giving thousands of people hands-on experience with driving simulators and sharing the heart-wrenching stories of people – like Jamie Nash in this video – whose lives have been forever changed by texting-while-driving accidents. More than 1.3 million personal commitments never to text and drive have been made at ItCanWait.com, through Facebook, text-to-pledge, tweet-to-pledge or at events.

“Through the It Can Wait movement, AT&T is collaborating with employers, nonprofits, law enforcement, educators, legislators, professional associations and government agencies nationwide,” said AT&T Senior Executive Vice President and Global Marketing Officer Cathy Coughlin. “I’m confident, together we can save lives by encouraging millions more to make the personal commitment never to text and drive.”

Panasonic Eco Solutions North America (Panasonic) has designed, built and installed a cutting-edge, LED center-hung video scoreboard and a 360-degree ribbon display that will be integrated with a concert-quality Panasonic audio system at Allstate Arena, located in Rosemont, Ill. The improvements to the Arena are part of a multi-phase partnership with the Village of Rosemont that also will encompass improvements to the Rosemont Theater, MB Financial Park at Rosemont and Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. The new installations have been custom designed to enhance live event viewing at the Arena by further engaging spectators in one of the Chicago area’s most vibrant and growing entertainment districts.

“We are grateful to Panasonic for their tremendous contribution to our community,” said Rosemont Mayor Bradley Stephens. “We are committed to bringing our residents and guests the finest in entertainment, and having Panasonic as a partner allows us to utilize the newest technological innovations available to enhance their experience as they visit our sports, performance, convention and recreational venues.”

Panasonic updated the Allstate Arena with a four-sided, center-hung, 6-mm pixel pitch Surface Mount Device (SMD) LED. Each side features a 9.4 foot-high by 12.58 foot-wide video board, complete with pyrotechnics, upper and lower 16-mm full-color halo rings measuring 2.1 feet-high by 62.99 feet-wide and 2.1 foot-high by 50.39 foot-wide respectively, and a decorative bottom cap with naming rights. For further enhancement, the installation included a 360-degree fascia LED video display, extending 680 feet-long and 2.1 feet-high, and four 85″ flat panel displays were also installed in the concourse area. The complete LED solution immediately improves the fan experience by offering live action, replays, statistics, as well as graphics and animations. The entire project was implemented in three phases, with the final part, including Panasonic’s integration of a state-of-the-art premium audio system, with completion estimated for the end of the month.

“With expertise in the design, build and installation of A/V systems, our team came up with a solution that would meet the specific needs of Allstate Arena, which included as many legacy components integrated into the control equipment as possible. This system install also showed how we successfully face challenges associated with a very active schedule within a tight timeline,” said Richard Ballard, VP Sales & Marketing, Panasonic Eco Solutions North America. “Providing a one-stop solution for our customers is just another way Panasonic adds value for its customers like Allstate Arena.”

Opened in 1980 and operated by the Village of Rosemont, Allstate Arena is a forward-thinking facility continuously striving to improve the spectator experience and its environmental stewardship. The arena is located at the gateway to Chicago. Proud home to the Chicago Wolves (American Hockey League), Chicago Rush (Arena Football League), the DePaul University Blue Demons and the Chicago Sky (Women’s National Basketball Association), the arena also serves as a host to memorable music guests such as Andrea Bocelli, Elton John, Billy Joel, Nickelback, Taylor Swift, and Metallica while also featuring shows like Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, World Wrestling Entertainment and Disney on Ice.

“Since opening more than 30 years ago, it has always been our goal to bring our guests the most engaging live entertainment experience. Panasonic’s recent improvements catapult the Allstate Arena far beyond what any home entertainment systems could offer, with state-of-the-art LED video boards and a premiere audio system,” said Patrick Nagle, Executive Director, Allstate Arena and Rosemont Theatre. “Panasonic worked closely with us to provide a solution custom designed to bring our fan engagement to a higher level, adding further incentives to come to live events.”

NJVC® will lead efforts to provide secure cloud brokerage services to the Network Centric Operations Industry Consortium (NCOIC) using its first-to-market Cloudcuity™ Management Portal during a series of 2013 geospatial community cloud demonstrations that will be conducted on behalf of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). NJVC’s partners are The Aerospace Corporation, The Boeing Company and Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC).

Hosted through the secure Cloudcuity Management Portal, NCOIC members will have access to CloudScreen™, an automated set of evaluation tools that:

Determines cloud infrastructure feasibility

Estimates cloud infrastructure cost and benefits

Conducts physical capacity for cloud translations

Matches application requirements to cloud provider capabilities based on features and functionality

Compares provider costs and quality of service

“NJVC is honored that NCOIC chose the Cloudcuity Management Portal as its brokerage of choice to offer cloud services to the geospatial community,” said Kevin L. Jackson, vice president and general manager of NJVC cloud services. “This NCOIC demonstration is significant as it will represent a new procurement model for the geospatial community, which is at the frontlines of protecting and responding to national and international crises in times of conflict. Procurement of cloud services will be less complicated, making deployments to the cloud easier and more efficient than ever before. This will benefit first responders and other non-traditional NGA users.”

Team members’ unique contributions include:

The Boeing Company: Geoservices through a Boeing-developed set of capabilities via its OpenGeo software

The Aerospace Corporation: An OpenStack-based cloud and a virtual organization management system patterned after the one used by the Worldwide Large Hadron Collider Computing Grid

OGC: Expertise to monitor, offer advice and report on the use of OGC standards throughout the demonstration period

Once feasibility is assured and providers are selected, Cloudcuity Management Portal users will leverage the integrated virtual application and data center manager services to design virtual data centers through a user-friendly console. Once the design is finalized and approved through an automated review process, virtual resources will be provisioned simultaneously, across the group of selected providers through the cloud service bus, which has application program interface connections to different cloud providers.

The Cloudcuity Management Portal also will provide advanced monitoring, consolidated billing, chargeback and policy governance to ensure provider compliance and NCOIC satisfaction.

ForeSee, the leading customer experience analytics firm, today announced the findings of its latest mobile shopping report and revealed that the customer satisfaction gap between mobile and the more traditional retail websites is narrowing.

The research, carried out across nearly 10,000 surveys, examined satisfaction scores from visitors to 40 of the largest (as defined by the IMRG) UK mobile online retail websites, apps and tablets in the UK. It serves to investigate the impact mobile shopping has had on those retailers, and provides valuable insight on how UK shoppers are using their mobiles to browse, research and purchase goods.

Key research findings:

1. Mobile satisfaction versus traditional websites – Retail mobile experiences still slightly trail traditional online retail websites with regard to customer satisfaction, however the gap is narrowing. Customer satisfaction with traditional online retail websites in the UK scored a 74 on the study’s 100-point scale, up from one point last year, and mobile experiences ranked slightly lower with 72—but a commendable two-point increase from last year.

Customer Satisfaction in the UK

2010

2011

2012

Retail Websites

72

73

74

Retail Mobile Sites and Apps

67

70

72

Implication: Consumers who use their mobile devices to engage and transact with companies are fairly happy doing so, and if a company is not providing a mobile experience, then it is missing out on a growing segment of customers that could otherwise make purchases and recommendations.

2. Multiple device shopping – Most consumers (87 per cent) are still using their home computer (or PC) as the main device with which to shop online, but one in five shoppers are using either a mobile phone or smartphone or a tablet device to access a retailer’s website, mobile site or mobile app. Mobile phone users are also more satisfied with their experience than home computer users are (77 vs. 74).

to shop with this company?

A computer at my work

74

A computer at another location

76

A mobile phone or smartphone

75

Another device

3%

67

Implication: Businesses need to measure satisfaction accurately across the multiple touch points that shoppers are now using to interact with them. They especially need to be prepared for the increasing use of tablet devices, which are emerging as a preferred way for users to shop.

3. An increase in popularity of “showrooming” (where customers visit a store to look at the merchandise in person, but then shop online—often via mobile—to get a better price through a competitor) – Forty per cent of the mobile users measured reported using their mobile phone while in a retail store; however, it isn’t always to check price comparison sites or competitors—many shoppers are using mobiles to check that company’s own website. However, it is true that there is a smaller, less satisfied group of mobile shoppers who are accessing a competitor’s site or app whilst in store.

How did you use your mobile phone
whilst in store? (Please select all that apply.)

% of Respondents

74%

75

I accessed a competitor’s website

34%

73

I accessed a shopping comparison
website (Shopzilla.com, Shopping.com)

16%

Implication: Showrooming isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Stores have an opportunity to keep their customers by providing a better mobile experience for them, but to do that, they must understand the needs of their own multichannel customer. If a mobile and/or store experience doesn’t meet expectations, customers will go somewhere else.

4. What do shoppers use mobile sites for and are they satisfied? As a whole, users who accessed mobile sites or apps to make a purchase and/or compare products are highly satisfied. More than half of the respondents used a mobile site or app to look up price information and 32 per cent compared products.

Implication: By understanding how mobile shoppers are using their phones and tablets, retailers can decide what kind of functionality to prioritise and improve the experience for customers.

“It’s plain and simple: companies that are not measuring the mobile customer experience are operating in the dark. It’s time to turn on the lights,” said Larry Freed, CEO at ForeSee. “Measuring mobile satisfaction is no longer an add-on for companies to consider. Phones and tablets are an integral nexus of online traffic and serve as companion channels to virtually every other customer touch point.”

ForeSee’s Senior Director of Mobile, Media and Entertainment Eric Feinberg added: “The mobile revolution is here and these companies—even the largest and best at what they do—cannot afford to waste time, effort and resources making poor decisions when it comes to managing their mobile experiences.

“Mobile is drastically changing the way today’s multichannel, multidevice consumers are viewing and engaging with companies and business leaders can ill-afford to stand idle and watch the opportunity go by. If they measure mobile (and do it well) their customers will do most of the heavy lifting in helping them to create a successful mobile experience. They will help to identify the purpose of the visit, show you their likely next step, and tell you their location and the devices they use. They will also tell you what is working, what isn’t, and what they would like to be able to do with your mobile experience. All you have to do is ask them.”

About the Research

The ForeSee Mobile Satisfaction Index analyses mobile satisfaction, elements that impact satisfaction, future behaviours, and other key findings through the eyes of the consumer. The report concentrates exclusively on the mobile experiences with 40 of the largest UK mobile e-tailers (as defined by the IMRG) and serves as a great starting point for companies that want to benchmark their mobile performance against some of the best businesses in this category.

Nearly 10,000 surveys were collected from visitors to these 40 companies’ mobile commerce apps and sites on phones and tablets from during November and December 2012. The study was conducted using a consumer panel. All scores are on a 100-point scale.
